The medical profession is one that is designed to help assist those that are hurting find some form of relief for the patient; when a cure is impossibility, it becomes both frustrating and saddening for the physician and the patient.
Migraines are one of those chronic conditions of which there is no cure only migraine treatment. For decades, there has been very little that a medical professional could do for his or her patients when it came to treating their migraine pain. Migraine treatment options would consist of the prescribing of antidepressants, anti-seizure medication or blood pressure medicine. Treatments such as these produced minimal results at best and were never a guarantee. There were those migraine patients that received some relief with the use of these medications but more time than not any real difference in pain was felt.

Finally, new hope for migraine sufferers surfaced with the discovery of triptans. Triptans is a prescription that attaches to the serotonin receptors and helps with inflammation and expansion of the blood vessels in the brain. Triptans are designed to constrict or narrow the blood vessels in order to prevent them from expanding and causing the onset of a migraine. The medical world was thrilled with this discovery and migraine sufferers thought their prayers had been answered. Soon after their development, reports were surfacing of users suffering severe and deadly side effects,
Triptans ability to relieve migraines came by the constricting of the blood vessels and blood flow; though the goal of the medication was to constrict the blood vessels in the brain, it seemed as though other blood vessels were being restricted, thus causing a lack of blood flow to the heart, brain and other vital organs. Side effects such as heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure were reported making it seem as though this new method of treatment was not the long awaited answer.
Migraine treatment can be a tricky thing and not a 100% guarantee. Open communication and honestly about allergies, health concerns and side effects between patient and doctor is the key to locating the most effective and safe migraine treatment.
