The modern medical world has made much modern advancement to help people overcome their illnesses. In the last two decades, medical professionals have strived to find cures for common conditions such as migraine headaches. Years of study and research yielded much information in the treatment of migraine headaches and for those who have suffered for years from chronic migraines the information gathered and complied could be life changing.
Migraine sufferers for years and even decades have had few migraine treatment options to choose from. Medical professionals were forced to assign a prescription to their patient that is not designed for the sole purpose of treating migraines. Prescriptions used and designed for the treatment of seizures, depression and high blood pressure was all the medical professionals had to offer their migraine patients until new information in the 90’s surfaced regarding the use of Triptans in relieving migraine headaches.
Triptans
Triptans have the capability to attach themselves to serotonin receptors found in the cranial blood vessels. Triptans job description is to restrict the blood flow to the brain in hope of preventing their enlargement. Triptans are an effective form of migraine treatment and have helped men and women endure less migraine attacks. The bad side or should I say the down side of using triptans as a migraine treatment is the possible side effects they can have. Triptans are designed to constrict blood flow to the brain; however, they can have an adverse effect and constrict blood flow to vital organs such as the heart.
Living with migraine pain can be a frustrating condition however, when looking for a migraine treatment plan one must be wise in their selection. Prescription medications can be helpful and not everyone that chooses to use them suffers with negative side effects; however, prescription medication such as the use of triptans is not the healthiest of treatment options.
Healthy Alternative
A healthy approach to treating migraine headaches would be herbal and natural supplements such as ginger, feverfew, magnesium citrate and Gingko Biloba. During clinical studies on the herbs mentioned, research showed that the combination of the herbs in a correct dosage is just as effective as prescription medication. Safe and healthy is the best treatment alternative to risking one’s health.
