One would think that if the pain was severe enough that nothing on the face of the planet would prevent the individual suffering with intense pain from finding relief. There are several chronic conditions that can cause an individual to struggle with severe pain like neuropathy, fibromyalgia and chronic migraines. Conditions such as these can have a profound effect on how a person functions throughout the day. Take the condition of fibromyalgia for example. Though not much is known about this disease the symptoms of fibromyalgia can cause an individual to struggle getting out of bed due to the body wide pain.
Neuropathy is another condition that causes the body to undergo odd and uncomfortable sensations like tingling in the hands and feet, burning, numbness and needle like pricking. Neuropathy like fibromyalgia has no known cure and the patient is left to discover a treatment that could help lessen the pain. Though fibromyalgia and neuropathy are two painful conditions that affect individuals the most common form of chronic suffering comes in the form of migraine headaches. Migraine headaches affect more than twenty million men and women each and every year and the pain can become blinding.
What Is A Migraine?
A migraine is considered by most medical professionals to be a neurological condition that affects the chemical balances in the body. When a migraine develops the blood vessels in the brain begin to enlarge and inflict painful throbbing or pounding sensations in the head. The pain of a migraine does not stop with just the throbbing and pounding. As the blood vessels in the brain expand they begin to release a harmful chemical into the brain, this chemical attacks the brains arteries which in return sets into motion a long list of other side effects and migraine complications.
Migraine complications can consist of sleep deprivation, cognitive difficulties and sensitivity to light and sound which makes it difficult if not impossible to function in the work place.
So Why Not Seek Help?
The obstacles that can prevent a migraine patient from finding relief often lie with the lack of knowledge regarding migraines and migraine treatments as well as the lack of initiative. Both obstacles can be seen due to the vast number of individuals that suffer from migraine pain on a habitual basis. Migraine treatment does not have to be overly complex all that is needed is a little bit of research and an open and honest conversation between patient and doctor.
