For those individual who come from a family or genetic history of migraine attacks they are much more likely to fall within the odds of having risk factors associated with experiencing a migraine attack of their own. Of course a migraine attack can happen at any time to any individual, however for those individuals who do experience (or will experience) a more regular incident of migraines there are certainly some common risk factors:
Gender – This seems to be significant in the category of risk factors in those who may experience migraine attacks. Hormonal Changes – Many females who do experience migraine attacks will notice that their migraine attacks take place just before or shortly after the onset of their monthly cycle. Other hormonal changes that become risk factors towards migraines are pregnancy as well as menopause.
Age – A person’s age can most certainly fall in the category of risk factors. If a person is between the ages of 15-55 they are in the age range where migraine attacks can most commonly occur.
Family History – Genetics play a large role in migraines. Statistics have shown that individuals who come from a line of family members who also suffer from migraines are more likely to have risk factors that attribute to becoming chronic migraines sufferers themselves.
Other Medical Issues – Certain medical conditions place individuals under risk factors to being more susceptible to migraine attacks. Some of these conditions such as depression, anxiety, stroke, epilepsy, or high blood sugar seem to be an indicator of individuals who are more susceptible to migraine attacks than those who do not suffer from these conditions.
Knowledge is the key to any individual who is searching for a migraine treatment. It is important to know the warning signs, triggers, and the common risk factors so that individuals will be more aware of their susceptibility to regular migraine attacks. Once all of the common risk factors are taken into consideration a person can then meet with a physician in order to find the best possible migraine treatment that is available to them personally.
