Okay slow down now, before writing off this article and moving on to the next, let’s be a bit realistic for just a moment. The dawn of modern medicine (as we know it) has only been around for about the last century. Are we to think those generations that lived before that time never had to deal with symptoms and conditions that we deal with today? Of course not, they had to deal with many of the conditions and problems that we face here in the twentieth century; the only difference is that the generations of the past looked to Mother Nature to help cure their conditions. The thought of Mother Nature being helpful in curing conditions and diseases has really come full circle, and many studies and research has been completed that proves it is not only effective but also beneficial to the human body. In regards to seeking a migraine treatment this is also true, Mother Nature has a way of providing relief in very specific ways.
Commonly Used Supplements for Migraine Treatment
- Magnesium – Migraine sufferers usually have lower levels of magnesium in the body then when compared to those who are fortunate enough to not suffer from migraines. Studies have shown that the supplemental dosages of magnesium can actually help with the painful symptoms of migraines, especially in those that may be triggered by the hormonal onset of a monthly cycle in females.
- Vitamin B2 – Vitamin B2 is an excellent preventative and useful supplemental therapy for migraine treatment because studies have shown that it can actually decrease the frequency and severity of a migraine for migraine sufferers. Another benefit of vitamin B2 is that it is safe to take while pregnant and is nontoxic. Vitamin B2 can be taken orally in supplemental form. If taken in supplemental form it is best to take vitamin B2 with food as it is more easily absorbed.
- Coenzyme Q10 – Coenzyme Q10 is found within the cells of the body, and it is the key to proper function within the cell, it has been revealed to have beneficial effects for patients that use it as a supplemental therapy for migraine treatment. Coenzyme Q10 has also proven especially favorable when used in combination with supplements such as Magnesium and Vitamin B2, and like other supplements besides being found naturally in foods can be taken supplemental form.
- 5-hydroxytryptophan – This particular supplement is an amino acid that is made by the body from tryptophan; it is then converted into serotonin which is an important brain chemical. Serotonin can reduce the intensity and frequency of migraine attacks by decreasing the constriction and dilation of blood vessels in the brain which can lead to migraines.
