The form of treatment that uses herbal ingredients as a form of healing has of course caught a bad rap from certain aspects, but if used correctly this type of treatment can be highly successful in providing relief for all sorts of conditions, especially for aiding in migraine relief.
Herbal Ingredients for Migraine Treatment
There are a few specific herbal ingredients which have been known to help with migraine headaches for centuries. Migraines after all, are nothing new to our generation. There has been much research that has been completed showing that the “medicines” of ancient days are in fact beneficial as treatment options for migraines. Some of the most commonly used herbal ingredients that can aid in providing migraine relief are:
- Ginger – is an herbal ingredient that works almost like the common triptans (a commonly used prescription drug for migraine treatment) by attaching to human serotonin receptions in order to help reduce migraine triggers. Except ginger works without any of the nasty side effects that prescription medications can cause. Ginger is 100% natural and while reducing the common migraine triggers, it has also been shown to help alleviate symptoms such as nausea that are associated with a migraine attack.
- Magnesium – studies have shown that the majority of migraine sufferers are known to have low levels of magnesium. So if the magnesium levels can become more balanced in those who are prone to migraines, then migraine attacks would happen less frequently, and in fact tests have shown that this is possible.
- Feverfew – another herbal ingredient that is a naturally occurring substance and has the ability to thwart the release of blood vessel dilating substances from platelets that can be the cause of migraine pain. Feverfew also aids in decreasing the inflammation of blood vessels which reduces migraine pain, as well as helps to lessen vomiting and decrease the severity of a migraine attack if an attack does occur.
- Butterbur – this herbal ingredient has shown in clinical studies to have reduced migraine attacks by as much as fifty percent when used over a period of sixteen weeks. Research during this study also shows that the severity of the migraine attack was also reduced when butterbur was used as an herbal ingredient for migraine treatment.
- White Willow Bark – this herbal ingredient works as an anti-inflammatory which reduces migraine pain and helps to bring migraine relief, it also helps with reducing the pain caused by constraining prostaglandins.
