Defining a migraine can be difficult as there is so little concrete information of the condition and how one goes about stopping it from over taking one’s life. Migraines are not an illness but a syndrome or condition that brings with it chronic symptoms and can plague a victim for years upon years. How It Happens
Migraine headaches develop in the brain, a migraine is formed when a migraine trigger is encountered. Once a trigger has been encountered the body begins to react chemically. The blood vessels in the brain begin to expand and cause a throbbing/pounding sensation to occur. This throbbing / pounding sensation continues until the blood vessels reach their full expansion or migraine relief is implemented. A damaging chemical is released into the brain sometime throughout the blood vessel expansion. This chemical begins to attack the brains arteries, thus releasing a whole slew of miserable migraine symptoms like nausea, vomiting constipation, blurred vision and cognitive difficulties.
Triptans
New prescription medication called triptans is now available on the market and is geared toward relieving migraine pressure. Triptans have two important abilities: they are able to constrict blood vessels and they create an upset in the process which leads into a migraine by disturbing the sequence of chemicals that inflict pain or irritation to the nerves. Triptans have been useful in the treatment of migraine pain, however there are a few risks involved that those considering treating their migraines with triptans ought to be aware of. The most common side effects associated with triptans are but not limited to: drowsiness, facial reddening, fatigue, tightening in the chest, tightening in the throat and also dizziness.
