Migraine treatment can be a tricky business and knowing the right way for you to go is so key in the prevention and remediation of these vascular headaches. I call them vascular headaches because they affect primarily the system of the vein and arteries but they also cause drama with the neurological system as well. They tend to irritate the trigeminal nerve in the brain, causing inflammation and pain. Also as a symptom and possible trigger of migraines, Cortical Spreading Depression can also slowly numb or depress the nerve endings starting in the back of the brain and working its way to the front; this process can actually be complete in about 20 minutes. So choose a good migraine treatment for you and use it regularly. Below is some more information so that you can best fight against migraine headaches.
The Process Initiated
Migraine headaches are not really headaches but are in fact a neurological condition that develops in the brain. When a migraine is in the early stages the blood vessels in the brain begin to enlarge and or expand causing intense pain in the head that resembles a pounding or throbbing. The pain of a migraine is felt unilaterally which means it is felt on one side of the head right above the eye. As the blood vessels in the brain expand they begin to release a harmful chemical into the brain, the released chemical strikes war up with the brains arteries creating a whole slew of migraine symptoms to unleash and inflict misery on the migraine patient.
Still Not Sure
If you are still unsure as to whether or not the pain you are experiencing is due to a migraine attack or just severe head pain then consider the following telltale signs:
A bout of irritability might occur with a headache but typically resides after some over the counter medicine has been taken, sadly those suffering with a migraine do not bounce back as quickly.
A headache attacks quickly and with no warning where as a migraine we learned has preemptive warning signs.
Feelings of nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound are all characters of a migraine and will not be present with a headache.
Migraines can last up to three days headaches a few hours.
Headaches feel more like a pulsing feeling inside your head; migraines on the other hand tend to be felt only on one side of the head.
A headache though bothersome does not typically result in a loss of productivity and the inability to function.
