Anytime there are long periods of intense chronic pain, it would be difficult if not impossible to become alarmed and or concerned for personal health. Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks to their self, “Today is a good day to endure pain, so bring it on;” that would just be crazy. However, one who suffers with chronic pain can wake up in the morning and say, “Today is the day I get the help I need.”
Admitting that the pain is unbearable is not a sign of weakness but intellect. There are over twenty million men and women suffering with chronic migraines every year and more than half of them choose to do nothing about their migraine pain thus lessening their overall life quality and productivity. Poor quality of life is nothing to favored or wanted yet those who chose to do nothing about their chronic headaches are choosing just that. Whether or not the headaches you are currently experiencing are in actuality migraines or not, the point is seeking treatment will improve your life and possibly reduce the amount of headaches.
First Things First
The first step toward achieving relief is to schedule an appointment with either your primary physician or a neurologist. Once an appointment has been scheduled, you can take the initiative and begin keeping a headache journal. A headache journal logs frequencies, duration and symptoms. A full headache history will be asked for at your appointment so begin thinking back to the day, time and place that your headaches began to become a reoccurring issue. At your appointment, it is imperative that you go prepared with several questions regarding causes, triggers and treatments.
You physician will explain to you the differences between migraines and headaches and then he or she will ask you several questions in order to determine if the headaches and headache symptoms you are complaining about are tension or vascular related. Migraines are usually diagnosed quickly after a journal has been kept and your questionnaire filled out in length. Before leaving your appointment, discuss possible migraine treatments or come prepared with researched treatments to ask his or her opinion on.
