If you have ever had a migraine headache, you may be familiar with the feeling as if your head is literally about to explode. I doubt that it is even a possibility that a head could actually explode, but the feeling is a legit one and here is the reason why. Migraine headaches are a unique form of headaches that actually fall into a category called vascular headaches. Vascular migraines are a neurological condition that causes a chemical change to occur in the brain.
Migraines causes are still under research but the information that we do possess regarding their development is as follows. As an individual comes into contact with a migraine trigger, his or her body begins a process of change. The trigger sets the blood vessels in the brain askew and the blood vessels begin to enlarge or expand. The expanding of the blood vessels can take several days to reach their full expansion capacity thus creating a feeling or sensation that the head is going to explode.
While the blood vessels are expanding, they release a harmful chemical into the brain that takes on the job of attacking the brains arteries. The arteries revolt by sending out a series of painful and debilitating symptoms.
Symptoms
Migraine symptoms can range from mild to severe and can leave a person incapacitated up to seventy two hours. Migraines and the symptoms they produce affect more than twenty million people each year and are one of the leading excuses men and women use to miss work. Migraine symptoms include:
