One may think they know everything there is to know about migraines and migraine treatments. Those who suffer from chronic migraine headaches may already be aware of the information attained in this article, but you never know there may be something in this article worth reading so I will start with the facts. Migraine headaches affect more than twenty million men and women each year. Migraines are the leading cause for missed work and for good reason. Symptoms of migraines can take up to seventy two hours to fully manifest. Why?
Migraine headaches are considered to be a neurological condition due to the affect they can have on the brain. A migraine may be referred to as a vascular headache for the same reason. Migraine causes are still unclear; however research has been brought to light regarding factors that play a key role in the onset of a migraine these factors are called “migraine triggers.” Migraine triggers can be both environmental and/or physiological. Migraine triggers are for the most part nearly impossible to avoid. Migraine triggers include but are not limited to:
- Stress
- Sleep Interruptions
- Weather Changes
- Foods
- Chocolate
- Aged Cheese
- Alcohol
- Hormones
- Monthly Menstrual
- Odors
- Perfume
- Cigarette Smoke
- Body Odor
- Lighting
Chain Of Events
Once a migraine trigger has been encountered, several physiological changes begin to take place. Over the next several days, several symptoms or warning signs, such as: fatigue, irritability, food cravings and or obsessive yawning, may take place. Symptoms such as these often go unnoticed but are indeed warning signs that a migraine is on the way. Once these symptoms start, the blood vessels in the brain begin to expand and release harmful chemicals into the brain to attack the brains arteries. Once this occurs, a series of painful symptoms begin and the migraine victim is left to suffer one migraine blow after another.
If more chronic migraine patients were aware of the differing migraine triggers, then more could be done to lessen the intensity of the migraine; preventative migraine treatments help soften the blow of a migraine. Migraine treatment is the only form of relief that is possible for chronic migraine patients. Speak with your medical professional regarding migraine treatment options.
