A migraine is much more than just a headache in datum a migraine is considered to be a vascular headache as well as a neurological condition. The reasonable intention that a migraine is so much more complicated than a headache has to do with the fact that the migraine develops in the brain verses the neck, shoulders or back. As a migraine develops, it begins to change the chemical character of the body. The blood vessels in the brain begin to expand causing a severe throbbing or pounding sensation to take place in the brain but it does not halt there. The enlarging of the blood vessels creates further complications like the releasing of a harmful chemical into the brain. This chemical that is released into the brain begins to attack the brains arteries causing the arteries to want to battle back by setting into motion a sequence of depressed and incapacitating symptoms that leave a migraine victim seeking out seclusion. Since the cause of a migraine is still unknown the migraine sufferer must do what he or she can to help reduce or eliminate migraine pain.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
NSAID is typically used in conditions where chronic pain is felt. The purpose of NSAID is to relieve pain where inflammation has occurred. There are two forms of NSAID:
1. Non-aspirin – examples of non-aspirin over the counter pills would include:
a. Ibuprofen
b. Acetaminophen
2. Aspirin – examples of over the counter medication that have aspirin would be:
a. Aleve (my favorite)
b. Motrin
c. Advil
This approach could include prescription medication, migraine surgery, nerve muscle removal or some type of natural or holistic approach. Though medicating with over-the-counter medicine would be the ideal way to treat a migraine, there are those cases that need something more drastic in their approach to treating a migraine headache.
