The Debilitating Effects of a Migraine
I have known people who have compared the pain of having a migraine to the pain of childbirth. Having suffered through both events, I can’t help but to agree. Migraine pain is completely debilitating, it renders one incapable of productivity throughout its duration. Those who have never had a migraine do not quite understand the effects it has on an individual. This article will explain the debilitating effects of a typical migraine.
Warning Signs and Triggers
Those who suffer from chronic migraines are typically able to tell if a migraine is about to occur. Many times people have certain triggers that onset a migraine, and if a person has happened upon one of their triggers they can safely fear that a migraine might likely occur. Certain foods can often trigger a migraine, some are common for many sufferers, such as chocolate, caffeine, red wine, food additives found in processed foods, and aged cheeses. Skipping meals or fasting also commonly cause migraines. Strenuous activity and high heat are also reported to onset migraines. Many women also have menstrual migraines during their cycle. Upon encountering any of the reasons a migraine occurs, the migraine sufferer often feels the migraine before it actually strikes. The most common reported preemptive warning sign is pressure behind or around the eyes. Many people feel sensitive towards light or sound before the pain actually hits. Some people develop a sporadic twitch in one or both eyes. Slight nausea is also a common warning of migraines. All people will have different signs or symptoms leading up to a migraine, it can help lessen the pain to figure out the signs before a migraine hits full force.
Migraine Pain at its Max
A full fledged migraine will often render the sufferer immobile. Many report they can’t get out of bed, and need absolute quiet and darkness to be able to tolerate the pain. Migraine symptoms include an excruciating headache like pain, often felt on one side of the head. A high sensitivity to light and noise worsens the head pain. Many people feel overall weakness and severe nausea. Vomiting with a migraine is a common occurrence.
Migraine pain can be intolerable. Over-the-counter medication can help lessen the pain, and if taken early enough can at times stop a migraine from occurring. Though, it is important to note most migraine medication comes with side effects and should be taken sparingly. A migraine sufferer is unable to perform regular daily tasks and tends to be completely unproductive during a migraine.
Finding Relief for Chronic Migraines
Chronic migraines are classified as having 15 or more migraines a month, though most who are suffering from even 1 migraine a week would be set on finding a way to avoid the debilitating symptoms at any cost. The best way to handle a migraine is to prevent it from happening altogether. Many prescription medications are available, but at the cost of side effects and long term problems. The best preventative measure is to live a healthy lifestyle and avoid triggers, but sometimes that isn’t enough. For extra protection against debilitating migraines, natural supplementation has been shown to help.
