Getting rid of a cold is done through medications such as Tylenol, Nyquil and Motrin. Medicines such as these are over the counter and provide the person suffering with the cold relief enough to maybe catch a few hours of sleep, but what if the head pain being felt is not the result of a head cold but something much more complex such as a migraine? How does one rid his or her self of the symptoms that are associated with a migraine? The first thing a person must do is determine is the pain he or she is feeling is the result of a migraine or something much simpler.
A migraine is very unique to how it develops and the symptoms it causes. A migraine develops in the brain and causes the blood vessels in the brain to enlarge and expand. The enlarging or expanding of the blood vessels causes severe throbbing and pounding in the head making it difficult for the migraine patient to think clearly and function even at a semi-normal basis. The head pain may be severe but the symptoms of a migraine are what really cause a migraine victim to be of very little use during a migraine attack.
Symptoms And Their Demise
The symptoms of a migraine worsen overtime causing the migraine victim to do nothing but hide away until the pain is over, this need to be hidden or away from people and things comes from the sympathetic nervous system. The Sympathetic nervous system is the body’s way of coping with pain. However, the sympathetic nervous system does not help fight off the symptoms and eliminate them so something else is needed. The symptoms of a migraine are as follows:
- Color loss
- Sensitivity to light and sound
- Cognitive confusion
- Blurred vision
- Throbbing / pounding head pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
So in order to rid one of these miserable symptoms the following treatment options should be considered: acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic care and herbal supplements. Each of the treatments listed have been known to effectively help reduce migraine pain but speaking with a medical professional would be a wise first step.
