There are many conventional medical treatments, involving all sorts of prescriptions medications, that are available to those seeking a migraine treatment; however there are also many non-conventional or alternative therapies accessible for the management of migraines and the painful symptoms that accompany them. A few of the most common alternative treatments available are Acupuncture, Biofeedback, Chiropractic, Massage, as well as the use of Supplemental Therapies.
Alternative Therapies
- Acupuncture – is an ancient Chinese practice that involves the insertion of very fine needles into certain points of the body, and can be a very effective form of migraine treatment. Supplemental Therapies
- Magnesium – Migraine sufferers usually have a lower level of magnesium when compared to those who do not have migraines. Studies have shown that the supplemental dosages of magnesium can help with the painful symptoms of migraines, especially those that might be triggered by the hormonal onset of a monthly cycle in women.
- Vitamin B-12 – is an excellent preventative migraine treatment because studies have shown that it can decrease the frequency and severity of a migraine for some patients.
- Coenzyme Q10 – is found inside the body’s cells and is key to proper function within the cell, it has been shown to have beneficial effects for patients that seek migraine treatment.
5-hydroxytryptophan – This particular supplement is an amino acid that is made by the body from tryptophan; it is then converted into serotonin which is an important brain chemical. Serotonin can reduce the intensity and frequency of migraine attacks by decreasing the constriction and dilation of blood vessels in the brain which can lead to migraines.
