When looking for a treatment plan that is easy to incorporate into daily life, what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Pills, right? The idea of taking a pill seems like such a simple answer for everything in life. Weight loss would be easier of a pill could be swallowed and the fat melts away. Dishes could be done by swallowing a pill; grass could be mowed by the taking of a pill; pills would be such an easy solution to all of life’s time consuming fixes.
When it comes to personal health, the medical world can be helpful by the prescribing of pills and other forms of medication, however there are those health conditions that do not require taking a pill in order or relief to be found. One such condition that can be treated with a pill would be the issue of chronic migraines. Chronic migraines are painful conditions that limit an individual’s ability to focus when enduring one. Migraine attacks progress slowly but once they climax the pain can be staggering and the physical and emotional struggles that an individual deals with makes it challenging to work or comprehend things when enduring one.
The Difference A Pill Can Make
Prescription medications can be used to treat migraine headaches. Medical professionals often prescribe medications such as antidepressants, blood pressure pills and even antiseizure medicines to lessen the frequency of migraines. However, studies have shown that little relief has been made off these types of pills so further research was done on the use of triptans in the treating of chronic migraines.
Triptans are a preventative drug that works at relieving migraines by way of constricting or narrowing the blood vessels in the brain. The constricting of the blood vessels prevents a migraine from fully forming and causing severe and debilitating symptoms. In order for triptans to be prescribed the individual must be in excellent health due to the severe complications that are associated with them. Triptans can cause heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and other health complications. Though a pill can be easy and effective at times, it may not be the safest option.
