When I was a kid, I played the game “kick the can” and would play it for hours with my sister and neighborhood kids. My dad also would like to play but his version was more like “kick the can while scaring you half to death.” He would try to find us and instead of calling out our name, he would try to seek up behind us and have us almost wet our pants. Yeah, fun but not fun. Now when it comes to migraine attacks, they seek up on you like my dad did when I was a kid. Without cause or warning, BAM! – you are struck, down for the count with a throbbing vascular headache. Migraines are categorized as vascular because they occur when blood vessels in the brain begin to enlarge releasing a chemical. This chemical attacks the arteries in the brain causing the intense, mind-blowing pain that you experience with a migraine. You can avoid triggers of migraines to help minimize the occurrences; some of the triggers are humidity, dry air, food, alcohol, cigarette smoke, caffeine, weather changes, bright light, neck/back tension or even sleep depravity. Also you can formulate a migraine treatment plan that will help you minimize the frequency but also the intensity of these migraine attacks.
What’s The Plan, Doc?
I do recommend that you consult and gain advice with you primary care physician in order to determine the best migraine treatment option for you. You migraine treatment plan will be your first and last defense against the onslaught and devastation that a migraine can do. It’s no wonder that migraine are the number one reason people called off of work sick; here a few of the symptoms of migraine headaches: nausea, vomiting, dizziness, indescribable pain, blurred vision and much more. This is why having a migraine treatment plan is so important.
One of the migraine treatment options is therapeutic massage. When people think of massages, they envision a Swedish or deep-tissue massage which would normally bring great enjoyment and relaxation. However, for a migraine sufferer, it would totally miss the mark of stopping the pain but it would intensify the already existent pain. The massage therapist will not focus on the large muscle groups that are targeted in deep-tissue massages but the small muscle group that runs from the base of the head to the bottom of the spine; these are the sub-occipital muscles. If massaged well and tension released, this migraine treatment can bring almost instant relief to the sufferer.
