In grade school, I won the Pepto-Bismol Award as a superlative for outstanding absences with most of them, by happen-stance of course, falling on a test day. For some reason, I always seemed to get sick on test days; surprisingly enough, most of these absences were legitimate illnesses and not conjured colds. Now as I graduated and moved into the workforce, I noticed that you can still call in sick to get out off work; I admit I did this a few times and most were not due to the “flu” so to speak. However, many individuals today don’t call in sick do to the local stomach virus or German measles or even the flu; the number one ailment use to get out of work for the day is migraines. But what is a migraine and how do they affect you? Glad you asked. Migraines are headaches placed in the category of vascular headaches because they affect the blood vessel in the brain. When these blood vessels expand, they release a chemical that in return attacks the arteries and delivers immense pain to the sufferer. This pain can be compared to an ear ache or tooth ache in its intensity. It will leave you in anguish and can even subdue motor function while suppressing your cognitive faculties; this means – no work, no life, no way. So, is there a cure for this horrible chronic condition? Unfortunately, no. All you can do is avoid plausible, personal triggers and follow through on your migraine treatment plan.
Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive And Dodge
First, you have the dodge your own personal triggers. I say personal because each migraine sufferer has a different trigger and must avoid them to help with your migraine treatment. A trigger is the starting point, the building block, the catalyst in initiating the onset of the migraine. It comes in many forms and must be identified to help eliminate your migraines; avoiding migraine triggers is a great migraine treatment option. However, other migraine treatments are also available; the following is list of current options on the market:
- Acupuncture
- Therapeutic Massage
- Chiropractic Adjustment
- Prescription Meds
- Natural Supplements i.e. Migraine Support Formula
