If you guessed a migraine headache, then you would be correct. Migraine headaches are very painful and have the power to knock a person down for several days. Migraine headaches can be a chronic condition wherewith migraine sufferers could endure some form of head pain for fifteen days out of the month.
Chronic migraines are thought to be by medical professionals a neurological condition. Migraines are not to be confused with headaches because the two are very different from one another. Migraines fall into the vascular headache category due to the effect they have on the brain. The cause of migraines has yet to be revealed, and more than twenty million men and women suffer on a consistent basis with intense migraines and severe side effects. The side effects associated with a migraine are so miserable that most individuals suffering with a migraine are unable to perform normal day to day activities while experiencing them.
Migraine Triggers
Migraine triggers are factors that play a role in the onset or the setting up the stage for a migraine to develop. Migraine triggers can be environmental or physiological upsets such as:
- Stress
- Weather – changes in barometric temperatures
- Sleep – too little, too much or disturbed
- Foods – chocolate, aged cheese
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Flashing lights
Once a migraine trigger has been encountered, the migraine prone individual has a small window of opportunity to seek out a migraine treatment before the symptoms begin to increase to the point by which nothing can be done but to sit and wait it out.
Migraine treatment is the only source by which migraine relief can be found. There is no known cure for migraines so in order to increase one’s quality of life there must be some form of treatment implemented. Migraine treatments vary depending on the method or approach the migraine patient takes. There are two main approaches to migraine treatment and that is through the use of prescription medications or natural holistic measures such as acupuncture or herbal supplements.
