Food can be both pleasurable and miserable. Huh? Think about it. There are those certain foods that when eaten bring a person comfort and ignites their taste buds. On the other hand, there are those foods that if eaten in large portions or consistently can have a negative effect and induce vomiting. I am married to a man that adores food; he loves to eat and enjoys the finer foods in life like lobster, steak and the yum yum sauce at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse. Every visit we make to Kobe, my husband is lovingly reminded (by his adoring wife) to go light on the yum yum sauce because of the effect it can have on his bowels; it never fails that the wise counsel goes unheard and we spend the majority of our date night stopping at every bathroom between Orlando and our home.
Though something may look good and taste good, it does not mean it is a wise food choice. Our eating habits play a bigger role on our health than I think some realize. Eating poorly does affect our waste line no secret there but what some may not be aware of is the affect food can have on us neurologically. Huh? Migraine headaches are considered a neurological condition. Migraines develop when blood vessels in the brain begins to enlarge and release harmful chemicals to torment the brains arteries. The tormented arteries then impose miserable migraine symptoms on the innocent migraine victim.
Migraine Triggers
Migraine headaches are believed to be brought on by migraine triggers. Migraine triggers are factors that have a direct influence in the start of a migraine headache. A sample of migraine triggers would be:
- Alcohol
- Weather
- Stress
- Sleep
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
You may see where I am going with this; certain foods can set the stage for a migraine to appear allowing the venue for a four act production that gets worse and worse until someone takes pity and closes the curtain. Refraining from alcohol, caffeinated beverages, chocolate and even aged cheese can help reduce the chances of a migraine reappearing in hopes of receiving a standing ovation.
