When struggling with migraine headache, you must eventually come to the conclusion that you can’t run from the issue and the condition just won’t go away without some forceful, active, non-passive treatment. You see, these vascular headaches affect millions of Americans each year and is actually the number one reason for people missing work due to an illness. Yet migraines are not an illness, as most illnesses can be cured. Vascular headaches or migraines cannot be cured, only treated and that can be risky at best if you don’t do your own research. When you do, you will find that many treatment options that are recommended but medical professionals really come with more side effects that treatment possibilities, like prescriptions drugs. I Wonder If OTC Meds Will Help
There are several approaches that one, suffering with intense migraine pain, may take in hopes of lessening the duration and intensity level of a migraine. The most common preventative measures are avoiding triggers or factors that can set off a migraine or take medication to help lessen the chances of a migraine developing. Individuals that suffer from mild migraines on rare occasions tend to treat their migraine headaches with over the counter medications. Over-the-counter medication can help relieve migraine pain temporarily and should be administered as instructed by the manufacturer. There are two types of over the counter medication: Acetaminophen and Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs.
• Acetaminophen – Acetaminophen is often taken to help reduce mild pain such as: headaches, backaches, muscle aches toothaches and even mild cold symptoms. Acetaminophen, aka Tylenol, is a pain reliever that relieves pain by changing the way the body feels pain by lowering the body temperature. Caution needs to be had when taking Acetaminophen, if taken in large doses over a long period of time damage can be caused to the liver and the kidneys.
• Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID) – NSAID is typically used in conditions where chronic pain is felt. The purpose of NSAID is to relieve pain where inflammation has occurred. Here are a few of them:
o Aleve
o Motrin
o Advil
o Ibuprofen
o Motrin IB
