By definition migraine pain is stated to be a very severe, pulsating headache, that is often associated with autonomic symptoms and is typically unilateral (only affecting one of half of the head), usually lasting anywhere from four to seventy two hours. There are other symptoms beside migraine pain that often occur during a migraine attack, those symptoms include blurred vision, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, as well as sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine pain is not abnormal, in fact, research has shown that nearly 1 in 4 households within the United States includes someone who sufferers from migraine pain. Furthermore, over 10% of the population, that includes about 14 million people; suffer from migraine pain on a near daily basis. Migraine pain statistically affects more women than men, in the United States alone that translates to over 27 million females who are currently experiencing migraine pain on a regular or chronic basis. Most individuals who experience migraine pain are pre-disposed to them either through family history, genetics, or issues that could be brought on as a result of complications from other medical conditions. While there are many triggers and genetics that result in migraine pain one of the largest contributing factors seems to be that of stress.

Massage therapy can be a more relaxing way to deal with tight muscles that may cause migraine pain and can also help to relax tight muscles that trigger migraines, reduce sensations of pain and stress, and help to improve sleep; all are factors needing to be well-thought-out when searching for a successful migraine pain treatment.
