The Gerson Diet began after a medical doctor, named Max Gerson, who suffered from severe migraine pain decided that diet could in fact help to cure disease.
The main concept behind the Gerson diet isn’t some newfangled concept; it is simply the thought that attempts to treat the entire body in order to oxidize systems throughout the body. Doctor Gerson felt that it is necessary to detoxify the body and concentrate on what passes through the liver. Gerson began to establish a treatment plan and published many of his articles in medical journals as well as creating clinical trials on patients. The concept behind the Gerson Diet is to focus on foods that are fresh and raw. Eating fruit and vegetable juices as well as soups that are made fresh as needed. In the research that Doctor Gerson wrote in his books he was very specific on how to accomplish this diet by using juicers, household goods, water distillers that he believed to be of a non-toxic nature. The diet also encourages the addition of supplements such as potassium and Vitamin B12 as well as enzymes such as thyroid hormones and pancreatic enzymes.

Supplements that are commonly used to treat migraine pain include Magnesium, Vitamin B2 (also called Riboflavin), Coenzyme Q10, Fish Oil, Feverfew, Butterbur, as well as 5-Hydroxytryptophan.
Attempting to Reduce Migraine Pain
Any attempt to reduce migraine pain should always follow under the direct care of a qualified physician. Whether using the Gerson Diet, another form of diet, or the addition of supplements it is important that medical care be given to monitor the patient and make sure there are no underlying causes for the migraine pain. However, diet and nutrition should be taken seriously; there is a reason that Mother Nature provided the raw vegetables and foods that can help to keep the body healthy and free of migraine pain as well as other diseases.
