The point of seeking medical attention when ill or suffering with a chronic condition is for the sole purpose of getting better and proper treatment. The same can be said when chronic migraine sufferers seek out the advice and counsel from a medical professional regarding the debilitating symptoms; they expect that the attending physician has his or her best interest at heart and would recommend an appropriate treatment.
Sadly, most medical professionals have had very little to offer their chronic migraine sufferers for decades and it was not until recently that more treatment options became available to migraine patients. For decades, the only form of treatment was the prescribing of medications such as:
- Antidepressants
- Antiseizure Medication
- Blood Pressure Medicine
Medications such as the ones listed were not designed or formulated to ease the pain and discomfort of a migraine attack so some other form of medication designed with migraine sufferers in mind needed to be formulated.
Triptans And Ergots
Triptans and Ergots are two forms of treatment that have been designed with the migraine patient in mind. Both of these forms of migraine treatments have a record of success, their purpose is to constrict or narrow the brains arteries in order to prevent them from expanding and inflicting pain. Though triptans and ergots get the job done and they do decrease the frequencies of migraines, they do however present several other complications such as the increased possibility of a heart attack, stroke and vital organ failure. Reports have shown that the use of triptans and ergots can lead to the narrowing of arteries to the heart; so rather than fix the migraine pain, they created new ones.
It has already been mentioned how difficult it is to find an effective migraine treatment option but there has to be something more effective and healthier than prescription medications. Thankfully, there are alternative migraine treatments that to some may border the line of unconventional and downright crazy. Nontraditional migraine treatments would include one of not more of the following methods:
- Chiropractic Manipulation
- Acupuncture
- Massage Therapy
- Herbal Supplements
Choosing a natural approach to treating migraines is a healthy way of dealing with chronic migraine pain. Speak with a medical professional or a nutritionist about holistic approaches to migraines.
