Sirens are loud and noisy. Though sirens are loud and annoying to most they give off warning to those who are near alerting them that trouble is on the way or has already come. If only migraine headaches came with an annoying siren to alert a potential victim that intense migraine pain is on the way and they need to get prepared. The pain associated with a migraine headache is so intense that a person becomes increasingly sensitive to light and sound which in return leaves them unable to function in an environment where light and noise are common occurrences. The increased sensitivity to light and sound makes it a challenge for one suffering from a migraine headache to function in their workplace effectively, when all they desire is a nice quiet dark place to lie down until the throbbing stops and sanity returns.
Studies have shown that chronic migraine sufferers could have up to fifteen days out of their month ruined by migraine pain. Migraines and their symptoms can be debilitating if not properly treated. Migraine attacks may not come with a loud and obnoxious siren but they do send out a warning.
The Migraine Siren
Migraine headaches often start revealing signs several hours and even days before attacking in full force. A shocking 40% of most migraines have preemptive signs before striking an individual helpless. Most migraines sufferers experience migraines on a recurring basis, thus making it important that they are made aware of what preemptive warning signs are and how they can lessen their chances of suffering from an intense migraine that renders them immobile. The warning sides that tell if a migraine is on the verge of breaking through may be overlooked or explained away, however if these warning signs are noted and charted migraines can be stopped before they get started.
- Sleepiness is often explained away by an overactive brain, bed discomfort and a million other reasons but drowsiness is a sign that a migraine might be in the near future.
- Sudden irritability or changes in mood. Irritability can often be chalked away as not having had a good night’s rest, be cautious of overlooking unexplained irritability.
- Fatigue
- Bouts of depression
- Obsessive yawning
- Cravings for foods high in sugar of lathered in salt
Symptoms such as the ones mentioned might go unnoticed by most, but those that suffer with frequent migraine headaches should take note of the warnings signs, chart them and prepare for the onset of a migraine headache.
Quieting The Noise
A relief of migraine symptoms can be found by the use of one of the over the counter medicines we have already mentioned earlier in this book and was briefly touched on in the paragraph above. Keep in mind that no prescription medication can prevent a migraine 100% but there are those prescription medications available that can help reduce the number of migraine attacks experienced as well as lessen the level of pain felt by the migraine sufferer. A few of the medication that a doctor might prescribe to assist with lessening the occurrence of migraines would be:
- Anti-depressants
- Anti-Seizure Medication
- Blood Pressure Medication
- Herbal
- Massage Therapy
- Chiropractic Care
- Acupuncture
Acupuncture
Acupuncture as a therapy originated as traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patents of energy that flow through the body are and essential to total body health. Acupuncture uses stimulation of specific acu-points on the skin by inserting needles that range in length from 1 cm to 10 cm. A typical treatment involves the use of 5 to 15 needles and the generally the acu-points vary during each treatment session.
Massage Therapy
The two main symptoms that are presented by the condition of migraine are fatigue and pain. Massage therapy can aid in lessening both of these symptoms by helping the Fibromyalgia suffer to be able to experience less pain, obtain more sleep, and also to help relax some of the tightened and stiff muscles that can contribute to much of the pain. Research has proven that the use of massage therapy as a form of migraine treatment can help migraine sufferers experience deeper levels of sleep and lessen levels of pain and fatigue. The way that massage therapy accomplishes this is by using the different forms of massage to help oxygenate the body as a whole which can decrease the severity of symptoms that a migraine sufferer will experience.
