The migraine process can be very detailed and can last for several days; this can incapacitate the individual and cause delays in work and family life. The process begins with a catalyzing trigger which ignites the migraine into movement and the blood vessels in brain will swell and expand. As they expand, they cause a chemical to be released into the brain which will attack the arteries and cause about half of the pain felt throughout the migraine process. The rest of the pain is from the inflamed trigeminal nerve which becomes irritated due to a common symptom called Cortical Spreading Depression. The pain is not the only symptom one could experience during a migraine; here are a few of the others: hallucinations, blurred vision, dizziness, depression, mood swings, food cravings, diarrhea, constipation, phonophobia, photophobia, osmophobia and even weakness in joints and muscles. These symptoms and many more won’t stop bothering you until the blood vessels, which caused this mess, return back to their original size and viscosity.
Migraine Treatments That Work
Migraines are a condition that has no cure at this point in history and the only relief from the above mentioned symptoms is by using, on a regular basis, a migraine treatment. There are a number of migraine treatments available to the end consumer; therefore, I would recommend that you do your own personal research concerning various migraine treatments and then consult with your primary care physician to determine which migraine treatment is best for you. Below are a couple of your migraine treatment choices:
- Massage Therapy – Getting a massage can be an enjoyable venture when you are not dealing with a migraine headache. Migraines seems to gum up the works and when it comes to getting a massage, you should not get a deep tissue or Swedish massage as the will only irritate further your migraine symptoms. What a professional massage therapist will do is work on the suboccipital muscles which run from the back of the head to the middle of the shoulder blades. Since neck tension is a common trigger for migraines, massage therapy will do some good toward that prophylaxis.
