What is a migraine headache and how can it affect an individual’s daily life. These are two very important questions because without the answer a chronic migraine sufferer is forced to live in excruciating pain on a reoccurring basis. Migraine attacks can lessen the quality of life and decrease productivity every time one attacks. With a decrease in both life quality and productivity a migraine patient can find his or herself struggling to keep a level of normalcy in his or her life as a result.
The pain of a migraine can range from moderate to severe and force the migraine patient to miss out on several days of work as the he or she waits for the migraine to decrease. The duration of a migraine can lasts up to three full days as the migraine patient waits the shrinking of his or her brains blood vessels. A migraine develops as a result of the blood vessels in the brain expanding and inflicting pain such as throbbing and pounding sensations to occur. As the blood vessels expand they begin to create several different chemical changes in the body one being in the brain.
The chemical change that takes place in the brain occurs as the blood vessels in the brain begin to expand and release a harmful chemical to run free in the brain. The independent chemical causes a series of miserable and debilitating symptoms to be unleashed on the migraine patient leaving him or her feeling isolated and immovable. The chemical reaction causes the migraine victim to struggle with his or her emotions as everything becomes heightened. Small things that would not normally faze a person send him or her into a tizzy. Sounds can radiate and bounce off the ear drums forcing further head pain to take place.
A Neurological Disorder
There is much confusion surrounding a migraine and what it is. Some believe that migraines are nothing more than that a severe headache when in fact a migraine is a vascular headache. Medical professionals believe that a migraine is a neurological condition and this can be proved by the way that the migraine develops in the brain. Migraine symptoms spew forth as a result of the migraine development and it is important to note what those migraine symptoms are so as to avoid being in public when those migraine symptoms are unleashed. Finding a migraine cure is something that medical professionals have strived for over the years but sadly have turned up empty handed. The lack of a cure prevents hope from forming in the life of a migraine sufferer when in fact there is much hope. For decades migraine sufferers have had little to no migraine treatment options but thanks to modern day advancements migraine sufferers have more options now than ever before in regards to migraine treatment.
