Migraines harm people in different ways and can cause more pain in some with more symptoms in others. The things to remember is that you have to run into a trigger before the migraine can start but once you do, there is little that can stop it. There are four stages to the migraine process: the Prodrome, the Aura, the Headache and the Postdrome. Let me tell you about the Headache. This is the part of the migraine that people always connect to a migraine as it is the most intense stage and the most feared. The pain is just throbbing or pulsating but it is a unilateral pain that focuses on one side of the head. The agony is caused by a chemical that is attacking the arteries in the brain as well as from the inflamed trigeminal nerve.
Prevention Can Be Had
One can reduce the risk of a migraine by avoiding migraine triggers such as: stress, sleep deprivation, hormones, foods, caffeine, lighting and smell or by taking some form of migraine prevention medication. The problem is that it can be extremely difficult to avoid triggers and not everyone is a fan of prescription medication. Staying held up in your house with all the windows closed and the lights shut off are no way to live, yet neither is dealing with constant fatigue and mood swings. Something has to be done to provide migraine sufferers a safe way to treat their migraine headache without experiencing a loss of productivity.
Chiropractic Manipulation And Adjustment
Chiropractic care often involves the use of spinal manipulation, adjustments of the joints and soft tissue as well as massage therapy as a holistic approach for migraine treatment. Often the cause of a migraine can be traced back to misalignment of the muscles and nerves in the lower back, shoulders or neck. Anyone searching for an alternative form of migraine treatment not involving prescription medications should most certainly look into the option of chiropractic care. Studies have shown that many migraines originate in the spine, often because of misalignment of the vertebra, and then can irritate the nerves that travel the length of the spine to the brain. This misalignment makes a person more prone to chemical imbalances in the brain. Some researcher has been done which says that manipulating the vertebrae—a chiropractor’s specialty—relieves the pressure against inflamed nerves and can in turn relieve the headaches.
