If you are anything like me, then when life gives you an unfortunate situation, you waste a lot of time stressing about what may or may not happen due to the situation rather than spend your time focusing on the current situation. I hope that was not to confusing; but when life brings about a painful and debilitating migraine, rather than waste time wondering how this pending migraine is going to affect the next several days, it is important that you take time to focus on the current symptoms before worrying about the next one.
Stress is a migraine trigger and can complicate the current migraine is continually had. Rather than stress out, seek out an effective treatment option and then prepare to tackle the migraine one stage at a time. Migraine headaches are thought to believe to progress through four distinct migraine stages. Each migraine stage has its own unique set of symptoms that slowly leads into the next stage. Learning the different stages their symptoms and possible treatments could help lessen the pain intensity and overall migraine duration.
The four migraine stages are Prodrome, Aura, Headache and Postdrome. Those who are used to dealing with migraines on a regular basis are familiar with the progressively worsening symptoms. This has to do with the blood vessels in the brain expanding and causing painful sensations such as throbbing and pounding.
Prodrome Stage is when a migraine sufferer begins to develop odd and easily excusable symptoms such as fatigue, obsessive yawning, food cravings and mood swings. This first stage is an important one in that if a migraine treatment is going to be effective it needs to be implemented during this first stage.
Aura is a stage that not every migraine patient will encounter or have to live through. This stage is brief and lasts only a few hours. Symptoms of this stage are often visually related. Black spots behind the eyes, blurred vision and sensitivity to light are common during this stage.
The Headache stage is the most severe stage and can last up to three days. During this stage, all symptoms climax and the pain is the most severe.
Postdrome is the coming out of stage where migraine symptoms linger for two days just for the purpose of showing the migraine victim just how powerful migraines can be.
Properly preparing for the onset of a migraine can help make each stage transition smoother and less stressful.
