A migraine timeline is a wonderful tool for migraine suffers to use when he or she is trying to determine how much longer the migraine pain will last. Every migraine attack comes with a timeline which means that migraines have a pattern by which they evolve. When evaluating the migraine timeline, a migraine sufferer can learn how best to treat his or her migraine in a timely and effective manner. There is only a small window of opportunity therefore the migraine patient must take advantage of the situation at the correct time.
In order to be able to take advantage of the small window of opportunity, migraine sufferers must learn the process by which a migraine moves. There are four migraine stages that an individual lives through. Each stage has its own unique symptoms and duration, by learning the different stages and how to identify them then a migraine patient can better plan his or her schedule and when to implement a treatment.
Prodrome is the first migraine stage and some would argue that this particular stage is a crucial one. It is during the prodrome stage that a migraine patient has the power to alter the course of his or her migraine. The prodrome stage comes with no head pain only preemptive warning signs such as fatigue, obsessive yawning, food cravings and bouts of depression. When symptoms such as these begin to develop, then the migraine patient has one or two days to plan and prepare for a migraine. It is during this first stage the treatment if implemented is most effective.
Aura
The second stage is the aura stage. The aura stage is a unique one because not every migraine patient goes through it. Those who do experience the aura stage would complain with symptoms such as blurred vision, dizziness and black spots behind the eyes. The aura stage shows up a few hours before the third and most painful stage.
The headache stage is where the pain climaxes and the migraine patient is left lying on the bed in complete agony. The headache stage lasts 2-3 days and brings on a whole slew of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and throbbing / pounding head pain.
Postdrome
Postdrome means the end is in sight. The body will still feel pain but mild pain and relief is only a few days away!
