How does a migraine develop? What are the symptoms of a migraine? Are migraine headaches able to be prevented? What treatment options are available to those who suffer with chronic migraine headaches? These are all important questions that migraine sufferers have and for good reason. When living with and in chronic pain, it is difficult to think about anything else other than the source of the pain. There is no denying that a migraine can cause immense pain and cloud one’s ability to think clearly, but there are areas of a migraine that are still mysterious such as the cause of a migraine.
The development of a migraine is a good place to start in understanding a little more about the mysteries of a migraine. A migraine develops in the brain and if had on a chronic basis, it is known as a neurological condition. A migraine headache is thought to be a vascular headache because of the chemical changes that take place in the brain. The changes that take place have to do with the blood vessels in the brain expanding and causing the onset of severe throbbing and pounding in the head. As the blood vessels expand, they release a harmful chemical into the brain that begins to attack the brains arteries and sets off a whole slew of other issues and concerns such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Blurred Vision
- Cognitive Confusion
The symptoms that are set off by the attack on the arteries are miserable and debilitating. Migraine symptoms can last up to three days and force an individual to seek shelter in a dark quiet place until the pain and symptoms subsides. As far as preventing migraine headaches, the only option would be preventative migraine treatments and even preventative treatments are not a 100% gurantee of a migraine free life.
For those suffering with migraine headaches, the only relief can be found though various migraine treatment options such as acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal supplements and even chiropractic care. Migraine headaches may not have a cure as of yet but that does not mean that migraine sufferers have to endure chronic migraine pain.
