When a migraine headache develops, it begins to take hold of an individual’s life and turn it upside down. Migraines are very painful and difficult to live with, the reason being that when a migraine develops it causes the chemicals in the brain to shift and the balance of the brains chemicals to become off kilter and causes a series of miserable and debilitating symptoms to spiral down and out of control. As the migraine symptoms spiral out of control, there is very little a migraine patient can do at this point but to sit back and wait it out.
Once a migraine reaches a certain point / stage, there is nothing that can be done, so it is important that if shorter migraine durations are what the migraine sufferer wants then the migraine patient should learn when to treat his or her migraine. Migraine headaches come in four different stages, each migraine stage has its own unique symptoms, and once these four stages are learned than the migraine patient can better plan and prepare for the next few miserable days.
Stage One
Prodrome is the first migraine stage and from what research and studies have shown it is during this first migraine stage that if treatment is implemented the migraine patient should have a less intense migraine experience because the migraine treatment is most effective. This first migraine stage is hard to recognize because the symptoms are so common. At the first sign of the following symptoms, implement your chosen migraine treatment: fatigue, obsessive yawning, food cravings and or depression.
Stage Two
The second stage of a migraine would be the aura stage where issues with one’s equilibrium and vision become the primary issue. Blurred vision, black spots behind the eyes as well as dizziness are to name a few of the symptoms in this stage. The aura stage lasts only a few hours.
Stage Three
The third stage is the most intense and can last up to three days. Symptoms of the headache stage would include nausea, vomiting, constipation and throbbing head pain.
Stage Four
The fourth and final migraine stage would be the Postdrome stage. This last stage is when the body takes a day or two to recover from the intense migraine pain endured over the last few days. Symptoms of this final stage would include mild head pain, muscle weakness and bouts of confusion.
