Every day we get up, get dressed and prepare ourselves whatever the day may throw our way. We walk outside get in our car and face the world head one. Day to day life is often referred to as the Rat Race due to the crazy schedules we keep, working up the corporal ladder and living only to pay our bills, but for those who suffer with chronic migraine headaches everyday life has a different look to it.
Migraine sufferers wake up each morning, get dressed and prepare themselves for one thing and one thing only – trudging through a jungle unscathed. The world and everyday life looks like a jungle to chronic migraine suffers, dangers lurk around every corner and without a skillful and knowledgeable guide the migraine sufferer could easily be snared by some jungle danger such as quick sand, snakes or wild beast. Interpretation please; metaphorically speaking the jungle represents the environment outside the safety of one’s home. Dangers lurking around every corner symbolize the many migraine triggers that migraine sufferers face on a daily basis.
Migraine Triggers
Migraine triggers are factors both environmental and physiological that play a role in setting the stage for a migraine to develop. Migraine triggers exist everywhere and are almost impossible to ignore especially in the work place. Without a medical professional helping guide the migraine sufferer through his or her migraine headaches, the migraine victim can fall prey to misery and debilitating symptoms time and time again. Migraine triggers could include:
- Stress
- Sleep – too much, too little or interrupted
- Hormones – fluctuation of hormones mostly estrogen decrease during a women’s monthly cycle
- Foods
- Chocolate
- Aged Cheese
- Alcohol
- Fasting
- Weather Change
- Odors
- Cigarette Smoke
- Perfume
- Body Odor
Once a migraine trigger has been encountered, the tentative migraine victim has a small window of opportunity to seek out a treatment and implement it quickly before the migraine gets out of hand. Migraine treatment is the only effective way one can actually treat a migraine headache. Choosing to face the triggers each day without a migraine treatment plan in place is a dangerous and silly thing to do. Migraines can be treated!
