Perfume can be very alluring and drawing in of one’s senses. I like a nice, soft perfume to smell and enjoy. Unfortunately, some perfumes make me nauseous; they smell like you sprayed an old person on you… not a good word picture. These and many other smells can be major olfactory issues for the chronic migraine sufferer. Since the sense of smell metabolizing quickly into your system, it is many times an unavoidable trigger because once you realize it is around, you have already catalyzed the migraine to occur. A rose by any other name wouldn’t smell as sweet unless your trigger is the smell of roses……sorry I couldn’t resist. Triggers are unique to each person just as the surroundings you find the triggers in. Usually, you find triggers in the environment around you which many times can be unavoidable. Here are some of the triggers known to us at this time: weather changes, humidity, hunger, stress / worry, neck / back tension, caffeine, certain foods, other smells like body odor or smoke inhalation and even a lack of sleep.
The Process Might
Once the trigger has been encountered, the migraine process will begin with blood vessels in the brain expanding and enlarging. As the vessels change size, a chemical is released into the brain which attacks the arteries and causes immense pain and other debilitating symptoms. These symptoms and other discomforts won’t stop and cease their effort until the blood vessels, which caused this, return back to their original size and shape. Here are some of the other symptoms that one might experience throughout the migraine process: constipation, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, vertigo, loss of motor function, loss of cognitive reasoning and even temporary blindness in one eye during the aura stage of the migraine. All of these can ruin your day and knock you out for a number of days to come. This is why migraines are the number one reason to miss work due to illness; millions of Americans fight this problem every year. The only hope for relief is by using a migraine treatment on a regular basis. There are a number of migraine treatments available and you should consult with you doctor as to which migraine treatment option is best for you.
