A strong support group is there to help assist and aid you in your time of distress; they can assist with organization during those difficult moments when chronic conditions such as migraine headaches take control. Migraine headaches have the ability to render an individual motionless until the pain subsides. How long does a migraine last? Migraine headaches are slow moving and when they move they progress through four different stages. Each migraine stage comes with its own unique set of symptoms that can complicate life and make the condition of chronic migraines more miserable than they already are. Learning about the various migraine stages can help migraine patients lessen their migraine duration if treatment is implemented at correct time and place. So what are these four migraine stages and what order do they come in?
Prodrome: Stage 1
The first migraine stage is the Prodrome stage and by far the most important of the migraine stages. It is during this first migraine stage where migraine treatment should be implemented in order for the migraine pain to have a fighting chance of decreasing rather than intensifying. This first migraine stage comes with several red flag symptoms that are designed to help alert the migraine patient that an attack is on the way. These preemptive warning signs are easily missed so it is imperative that they are recognized so that a treatment can be instilled.
The preemptive warning signs take days to develop and can last for an extended period of time and they look something like this:
- Extreme Fatigue
- Obsessive Yawning
- Food Cravings
- Bouts Of Depression

It is important to note that not every migraine sufferer experiences this particular stage but if they do they will begin to notice changes in their vision and equilibrium. Symptoms such as blurred vision, black spots behind the eyes and dizziness often develop several hours before the third stage of the migraine. This second migraine stage can create such odd sensations of dizziness that it can induce vomiting.
Headache: Stage 3
The third and most painful migraine stage is the headache stage. The headache stage is the one that lasts the longest and is by far the most painful. It is during this third migraine stage that the pain and symptoms become so severe that they can decrease productivity and even limit mobility. The headache stage is when the blood vessels of the brain begin to throb and pound uncontrollably until the migraine patient is left with no other choice but to run and hide from his or her migraine pain. The symptoms that manifest themselves during this stage are many and completely miserable. Symptoms can head pain can lasts up to seventy two hours and bring on the following discomforts:

The fourth and final migraine stage is the Postdrome stage. This last migraine stage is to most migraine sufferers the light and the end of the tunnel. It is during this fourth and final migraine stage that the migraine patient is left to recoup after a thunderstorm of emotions and physical sensations. Lingering migraine symptoms include mild head pain, muscle soreness and even bouts of confusion as the migraine sufferer recoups.
