If you are someone who struggles with migraine headaches on a chronic, daily basis, then you know how painfully frustrating it can be: when you have somewhere to be but you can’t, for the life of you, get out of bed due to the debilitating symptoms that a migraine brings. Over 10 million Americans suffer from these vascular headaches everyday and gave little to no relief from the agonizing pain. Migraines are described as vascular headaches because of how they affect the veins and blood vessels on the body, especially the brain, and this is where our little migraine starts. When blood vessels in the brain begin to expand after the person comes in contact with a physiological or environmental trigger, the expanding causes a chemical to be released into the brain. This chemical will attack the arteries and cause the intense pain felt from a migraine headache. The pain and other symptoms will not cease until the blood vessels, which started to expand, stop and return back to their original size and viscosity.
An Annoying Difference
The onset of a headache is nuisance and can cause productivity for the mean time to stop until it fades but how do you differentiate between a migraine and a headache? Most headaches are often short lived with no cause for anxiety; there are times when a headache causes severe tension in the facial muscles putting a strain on the neck, shoulders eyes these headaches are called tension headaches and can be treated with over the counter medication. Some forty million people suffer with headaches throughout a given year making headaches a very common complaint, the concern is not that a headache has occurred but the frequency of the headache as well as the length in which the headache last. If frequent headaches occur and last longer than a few hours, medical attention might be needed in order to insure that the pain being felt is truly a headache and not something more like a migraine.
Preventative Energy
Vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin, is an excellent preventative migraine treatment because studies have shown that it can decrease both the frequency and severity of a migraine for some patients. Another benefit of vitamin B2 is that it’s safe to take while pregnant, and it does not cause toxicity. It can also be taken in supplemental form such as a capsule or tablet. If taken in supplemental form it is best to take vitamin B2 with food as it is more easily absorbed. Riboflavin is the primary organizer for all energy in the body and maintaining that energy is its primary purpose.
