A migraine headache is cause by the catalyst of a migraine trigger. A catalyst is defined as a reagent that either speeds up the reaction or slows down the reaction but there is a change in rate of the reaction. In a migraine, the catalyst being a trigger takes the potential energy and conditions of that person’s body, which leans toward the propensity of a migraine and ignites the potential into active, kinetic energy causing the migraine chain reaction to begin. It basically gives it the nudge over the cliff and at all times, the migraine sufferer is on the edge of that cliff, waiting to be pushed over.
Different Types
Now that you understand what a catalyst is and how it can create such overwhelming condition to ignite, we can look at the different types of triggers and how they can affect you. There are environmental trigger and physiological triggers. Both can surprise you at any given time, yet you can control the physiological triggers more than the environmental trigger at times. Environmental triggers could be any of the following: weather changes, humidity, dry air, career stress, emotional stress, smells like body odor or perfumes, cigarette smoke, loud noises and even bright lights. Here are some of the physiological triggers that you could run across:
- Hunger
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Foods
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Neck Tension
- Fatigue
- Excess Sleeping
As you can see, the trigger expanse is vast and so to back up further away from the cliff, you would need to use a migraine treatment options on a regular basis. This will keep you guarded and away from too many migraine flare-ups.
Prescription Medication
Triptans and Ergots are the drug choice when a physician prescribed some medication to combat the incurable condition called migraines. Now they do come in different forms such as a nasal spray, oral capsule, or even an inhalant. The problem is in the method, it’s in the meds. Triptans and Ergotamines were not designed for migraine treatment but to lower high blood pressure. So, even though the blood vessels that normally would expand, they don’t for those on these meds. The problem lies with the rest of the healthy blood pressure vessels that now become constricted everywhere.
