Alternative Migraine Treatment
Alternative medicine for migraine treatment uses many different therapies and techniques for providing migraine treatment and relief. While these options may be considered “alternative” it should be stated that they have been studies in many different forms of research for migraine treatment and have been proven successful for migraine treatment as well as prevention and relief. Some of these “alternative” forms of migraine treatment include Biofeedback, Chiropractic Care, Acupuncture, Massage, as well as the use of Supplements.
• Biofeedback – A therapy that most definitely falls into the category of “alternative”, this type of migraine treatment has actually been proven in research and studies to be a legitimate form of pain management and has shown great results for long term migraine treatment and relief.
• Chiropractic – Chiropractic care, aslo known as spinal manipulation, is another alternative method for providing migraine treatment. Research has shown that especially in the case of tension and/or migraine headaches, chiropractic care can be as effective as some of the preventative medications are at helping to provide relief and keep the onset of migraines from occurring. Chiropractic care can also be beneficial once a migraine has begun because it can reduce the painful headache and other symptoms if care is given in a timely manner.
• Acupuncture – Yet another of the “alternative” treatments, Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that involves the use of very fine needles that are inserted into specific points of the body in order to provide migraine treatment. Again, research has proven that acupuncture can be very effective, and the pain relief that is provided by acupuncture for migraine treatment can last for months. It is important, however that a highly trained professional administer this form of therapy.
• Massage – Another successful form of alternative migraine treatment can be found with the use of massage. Pain relief and diminished migraine symptoms comes when a specially trained therapist can work the muscles around the head, shoulders, neck and back in order to help relieve muscle tension and provide migraine treatment.
• Supplements – The last form of alternative migraine treatment that should be considered is the use of supplements. Supplements are an excellent alternative to prescription medications as they are not habit forming and they do not cause negative side effects. Some of the most successful supplements that are used for migraine treatment include the use of Magnesium, Coenzyme Q10, Melatonin, Vitamin B012, as well as the use of 5-hydroxytryptophan
