Have you every taken a trip in an airplane? Well, if you haven’t, you need to take some gum because it will help relieve the pressure you feel in your head. Ten years ago, I took a trip fromFloridatoCalifornia; I didn’t relieve the pressure and had no idea that the unrelieved pressure could create a reaction in me known as a migraine. You see, triggers are the nuisome catalysts for the migraine chain reaction. They are as different as the individuals who have them. These triggers must be avoided in order to stop a migraine threat. Here are a few of triggers that affect most people:
- Bright Light
- Humidity / Dry Air
- Weather Changes / Drop in Barometric Pressure
- Certain Foods / Drinks
- Loud Noises
- Neck/Back Tension
- Smoking Smells
- Alcohol
However, not all triggers can be avoided; sometimes, you must follow your migraine treatment plan in order to eliminate a migraine occurrence.
Migraine Treatment Options
Migraine treatments are the only other way of actively affecting change in your migraine occurrences. You must consult your primary care physician to determine which migraine treatment option or options will work best for you. Here are a few of the options available:
- Acupuncture – Getting poked with needles is not my idea of a good time; however, acupuncture has been a proven method of relieving not just migraines but most all other ailments as well. The Chinese believe when an individual has an illness (chronic or otherwise), the balanced flow of energy within the body’s meridian have been disturbed. By applying needle to these pressure point throughout the body, you can restore harmony and eliminate the illness altogether.
- Massage Therapy – The massage therapist is trained to focus on relieving tension on the neck and back. They do this, not by massaging the large muscle groups through a deep tissue massage or Swedish massage, but by targeting the small muscles along the spine known as the sub-occipital muscles. Relief should be instant or least after a few sessions. Since neck and back pain are proven triggers of migraine, this method is a great migraine treatment option.
