“I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!” Have you ever heard that saying? No one can actually eat a horse but it gives the impression that you are so, very hungry. I have actually been so busy I forgot to eat and my blood sugar ran low and got a headache which was not fun. However, a headache is nothing and I mean nothing, compared to a migraine headache; hunger can be a powerful, reactive trigger for a migraine attack to occur. A trigger is the catalyzing factor that begins the migraine chain reaction. It normally is found in the environment of that person and is unique to that person. Not everyone has the same triggers nor does everyone experience the same symptoms of the migraine. We are all unique, just like everyone else. Now once a trigger (like sunlight, weather changes or smelling cigarette smoke) is encountered, blood vessels in the brain begin to expand and this expanding releases a chemical into the brain. This chemical will attack the arteries in the brain, cause intense pain / other symptoms and will not cease until the blood vessel return to their normal state and viscosity. Here are some of the other symptoms you might experience:
- Constipation
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Blurred Vision
- Blindness in one eye
- Unilateral head pain
- Loss of motor function
- Loss of cognitive reasoning
Ah, Some Relief
The only relief a migraine sufferer might have is to use a migraine treatment option; there are many options available but you should consult with you primary care physician to determine which of the following migraine treatments is best for you and your health.
- Acupuncture – Needles are the things that most people fear in doctor visits but if they are placed properly, you can have amazing results concerning ailments such as migraine headaches. The Chinese believe that the body is like many roads flowing with energy. If one of these paths are clogged, then you result in injury or sickness. So through the use of specific pressure points pricked, you can unhinge the roadways and the energy can flow freely once more.
- Massage Therapy – By unknotting the sub-occipital muscles that go down your neck and back, you can calm most migraine symptoms and soften the migraine itself. NO DEEP TISSUE – this will only make things worse.
