Chronic fatigue is something I am personally struggling with on a daily basis. My chronic fatigue has gotten so bad that I have had to seek medical intervention. Weeks of testing and blood work has driven me to the point of which I am ready to scream. I am in the process of awaiting my test results and I have to admit I am not waiting so patiently. The exhaustion I feel is only part of my dilemma, the second part has to do with the side effects that come from my lack of sleep – migraine headaches.
Sleep deprivation is one of the many migraine triggers. Migraine triggers are factors that play a role in the onset of a migraine attack. Migraine triggers can be either environmental and or physiological. Stress and sleep are two of the main triggers that I personally struggle with and once I go without sleep my stress levels rise and before I know it a migraine is on the way. I have tried everything to force myself to sleep from sleepy time tea to four ounces of wine a night but nothing seems to help.
Preventative Treatment
Suffering from lack of sleep can’t hold a candle to suffering from a migraine attack the pains and symptoms are two completely different things. A migraine affects everything from a person’s mood to his or her chemical balance. When a migraine attacks, it causes the blood vessels in the brain to start expanding; the expanding of the blood vessels can cause throbbing and pounding sensations to occur. Eventually the enlarged blood vessels release a chemical into the brain to attack the brains arteries pushing the migraine victim down a miserable slope of pain.
Preventative migraine treatments such as prescription medications and or natural / holistic options like acupuncture, chiropractic care and herbal supplements have been known to help provide a decrease in migraine frequency. What a relief it has been knowing that though I might not be able to speed up my results I can be proactive about migraine treatment.
